A family business born of passion
Gondwana has grown from a specialist family enterprise into one of Scotland’s leading providers of high‑performance renewable heating systems for homes and businesses, supported by worldwide heating consultancy and Passive House consultancy.
Today the company is recognised for its depth across renewables: heat pumps, MVHR, solar heating, biomass boilers and whole‑building low‑energy performance — knowledge shaped by decades of hands‑on work with technologies that were commonplace in Scandinavia long before they reached the UK.
What ties it together is system integration: making heat pumps, solar, wood, ventilation and thermal storage behave as one system rather than several, and developing the components and methods that let them. Everything Passive House — design, certification, airtightness and the products that go with it — runs through the same work.
Led by Dave, the third generation in a family committed to advancing renewable heating, Gondwana continues to expand while retaining its family character. A modern specialist team whose technical capability and commitment to innovation define the company’s premium standard.
Dave Adams
Dave is the third generation of his family to run a business in the construction industry: his grandfather brought modern timber‑frame techniques to Scotland from Canada after the Second World War, and his father built the business into a supplier of Scandinavian kit homes. It was on those homes that Dave first gained experience of the products Gondwana sells and installs today.
I started working for my father aged 12, labouring, digging, loading scaffolding with bricks — all the good stuff! It put me off construction.
Wanting to forge his own way in the world, and wary of the construction industry itself, he went to Napier University in Edinburgh and spent several years abroad — including a stint in Holland, Belgium and Germany fitting swimming pools heated by a variety of cunning and sustainable means: solar thermal, thermal storage systems, masonry stoves and biomass burners among them.
He has been building on that experience ever since, and has installed hundreds of systems all over the UK. Still fascinated by heating and sustainable technology, Dave never tires of learning, and enjoys regular trips to visit suppliers in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy to see the latest products and techniques.
What we do
Heat pumps, pellet boilers and stoves, solar thermal, wood, MVHR and the thermal storage that lets them work together rather than separately. We supply, design, install, commission and maintain, and every installation is carried out by us from start to finish.
Consultancy & training
As a certified Passive House designer, Dave provides consultancy and training that helps individuals and companies work confidently in renewables — from acting as a technical sounding board to detailed calculations and full system design.
